Notes
-----
Melodica - Vitamin M
Recorded By - Steve Vibronics
Vocals - Boney L
A new release on Universal Egg by this master of the dance, Stevie Vibronics.
16 dubwise murder style tracks (4 on each side), rough and wicked, heavy and
wild, are presented here. I don't know how I should explain Vibronics' special
sound, you have to hear it and then you will always know that it is Vibronics
if you hear them. He uses a special keyboard sound for all his skanks and
melodies that sound smooth and warm while the rest of the music is just kicking.
From the real sound system killers like "Rastaman's Story", the openener, to
chill out dubs like "Mother Earth" there is a wide variety of styles. Of course
most songs just burn the turntable - wicked, hot and fast. Some tracks feature
Boney L on the mic. She has a sympathic voice and "Positive Direction" is a
wonderful song thanks to her singing. All vocal tracks ("Jah Music", "Positive
Direction", "On Jah Side") come with the accompaning dubs. Unfortunately
"Positive Direction" and "On Jah Side" were already available on a 7" so there
are only 12 new tracks for me on the double vinyl (although the versions differ
to the ones on the 7"es).
It seems that Stevie Vibronics produced his album right for the sound systems
what I like very much. Many artists bring slower and more melodical tracks on
albums while the real dubs can be found on 7"es and dubplates. Not here.
Actually only "Dub Advance", "Vintage Dub", "Positive Direction" and "Mother
Earth" are slower, all other tracks are fast steppin' dubs. "Jah Music" is in
between both categories, not really fast, but intensive beat and an absolutely
wicked version.
Besides the already mentioned "Rastaman's Story" the songs "Samsara"
(also on "Soundclash Series Session 2") and the complete C side
("Beat Down Babylon", "Dub Crisis", "Kali Mountain", "Rosetta Stone") are the
heaviest and fastest dubs around. "Beat Down Babylon" seems to be produced
differently as the output level is much lower than on all other tracks - that's
not good if you want to copy the album on tape for the walkman. But that's
already the only negative thing in this absolutely recommendable album. Everyone
who likes the sound system style has to have this LP, people who prefer slower
roots dub should check first so that they don't be shocked ;-)
enjoy!!!
